Sikkim is small on the map and vast in feeling. From the capital to the high frontier valleys, here are the regions we travel and what each one gives.

Gangtok

Gangtok (East Sikkim)

Most journeys through Sikkim begin in Gangtok, and for good reason. The capital sits on a ridge with the mountains on every side, a lively town of markets, monasteries and cafés that makes an easy, comfortable base for the days ahead.

We use the time here to settle in gently. Wander the pedestrian stretch of MG Marg in the evening, visit the Enchey and Rumtek monasteries, ride up to a viewpoint for the first sight of the high peaks, and get a feel for everyday Sikkimese life before heading deeper into the hills.

North Sikkim

North Sikkim

North Sikkim is the Sikkim of the imagination: vast, high and elemental. The road climbs through changing forests and river valleys into a landscape of alpine meadows, glacial lakes and snow that lingers well into the year.

This is a region of permits and altitude, best travelled slowly and with local knowledge. We arrange the paperwork, time the drive to the weather, and bring you to places like the valleys near Lachen and Lachung and the still surface of high lakes, without the rush that spoils them.

South Sikkim

South Sikkim

The south is where Sikkim opens out into long views and gentle ridges. Dawn here can be extraordinary, with the first light catching Kanchenjunga while the valleys below are still in shadow.

It is also a region rich in heritage, home to some of the state’s most revered monasteries and quiet hilltop towns. We build in early mornings for the sunrises, unhurried monastery visits, and time to simply take in the scale of the mountains.

West Sikkim

West Sikkim

West Sikkim rewards those who slow down. Around Pelling and the old capital of Yuksom, the pace softens into village paths, ancient monasteries and trails that once carried kings and pilgrims into the mountains.

This is the heart of Sikkim’s heritage and some of its finest walking country. We spend our time here on foot and in conversation: heritage monasteries like Pemayangtse, sacred lakes, and homestays where the welcome is as memorable as the views.
